Concept:

This is the only modern section of the parade, portraying Joan’s legacy in current times and more recent history.

Full member costumes:

• NEW!  Joan as Muse: Joan of Arc’s life left a legacy of artistic, literary, theatrical and musical compositions. Imagine a group of men and women “wearing” works of opera, books, television, movies and music. We’d like to build a new group with coordinated costumes representing different works of art about Joan.
• Suffragists: A large group portrays the early 1900s-1920 movement for women to get the right to vote — Suffragists used Joan of Arc images heavily on their posters and banners and frequently feature costumed Joan of Arc characters at rallies, and they urge the crowd to VOTE.
• Women military veterans: A group of real women veterans also walks in this section, as well as the Courir de Mardi Gras Acadian-style Mardi Gras in celebration of Louisiana’s French heritage.
• Joan as Patron Saint: Joan is the paton saint for many different groups, such as the military, rape victims, and the LGBTQ community. We would love to expand this new section to include these kinds of concepts and characters and are open to your ideas.

In front of Legacy goes a human-sized tricycle version of the golden Joanie on the Pony, and behind Legacy goes a giant lighted golden Joan statue, blessing the city.
