For 2025, we're focusing on the story of Joan's sword. The doubloon reads "Joan retrieves her sword 1429." Here's the story as detailed on our sword-themed playing card: "After the teenage villager Joan of Arc (1412-1431) arrived at Charles VII’s demoralized court and convinced him to let her lead his armies, the court armorer outfitted Joan – but she said God had already chosen her sword. Following her directions, an ancient buried sword with five crosses was found at the church of Sainte-Catherine-de-Fierbois. When they unearthed it, the rust fell instantly away, and with it Joan led the French to victory. This story inspired the annual sword blessing ceremony at St.Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, as the young Joan Maid of Honor pauses at the church to receive a blessed sword. The real sword used in the ceremony was a gift from the City of Orléans, France, to the Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc in 2018 in celebration of the sister city relationship."As always, the back side of the doubloon has the Krewe name, coat of arms and date established. The sword story is featured on the doubloon, coasters, and playing cards this year.
