Each year’s saint medallion features a different artistic representation of Joan in a different setting. This year’s art piece is a medieval miniature, originally part of an illuminated letter D. The 2018 setting is a one-inch oval antique-gold colored alloy metal with a glass cabochon (nickel, lead and cadmium-free). The back says “St. Joan of Arc 2018, Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc.” Saint medallions are individually packaged traditional saint-medal-style on a prayer card in a fitted cello envelope. Inside the envelope is another card which has background information on the painting on one side. The other side has a krewe member initial for making it and a krewe member initial for praying for the recipient. The 18-inch chain is a nickel, lead- and cadmium-free antique gold-colored alloy..
The insert card reads: “The painting used in the Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc’s 2018 Joan of Arc saint medallion is a miniature that forms the inside of an illuminated letter “D” from a medieval manuscript by an anonymous artist from the Flemish school (AE II 2490, Centre Historique des Archives Nationales, circa 1450-1500). Joan is depicted here with her sword and banner, with the image of “our Lord holding the world with two angels” as Joan described it in her trial testimony.”
