Manufacturer: Krewe de Jeanne d'Arc
  • Description

This original children’s book tells the story of Joan of Arc’s life through the eyes of a child seeing the Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc parade, illustrated by photos of characters from our parade.  Printed as a 6″x6″ square saddle-stitched (stapled) 24-page paperback booklet in full color, the medieval-inspired artistry will captivate adults as well as children. As the main frames carry the illustrated plot, a miniature version of the parade unfolds page by page underneath the main frames in the style of medieval marginalia on an authentic medieval border. The last page shows the full parade in sequence in a medieval landscape.  Sold in packs of 20 for giving away as throws to help our parade viewers learn Joan's story. Created by krewe members Amanda Helm and Judy Harris Helm, drawing on the work of our volunteer krewe photographers Kim Welsh, Frank Stansbury, Irina Filatova, LeAnne Hitchcock, Julie Darby, Gary H. Jones and Robert Dales.  Amelia, the child depicted in the book as a parade viewer, is actually a long-time parade participant and a true Joan of Arc fan.  Early childhood expert Judy Harris Helm wrote the text and tested it on children of various ages, parents and a pastor.  Krewe graphic artist Amanda Helm created the illustrations. While most of the photos are drawn from our 10th anniversary year, the 2018 parade featuring our 2018 maid Martha Pinney, our first 9 Maids of Honor are included (2010-2018).  Sample pages are shown here with a watermark (the actual book is in high-res with no “do not print” watermark).  Please note: Because Foot Soldier members may not hand out throws, they may not purchase throws, except for the keepsake pack and individual throws sold in person at events. Note: The creators have done their best to strike the right balance between including as many krewe members as possible, using available full-length photos, capturing the meaning of the parade, and keeping visual crowding to an aesthetically pleasing level. We hope you will find your own medieval miniature among the more than 100 included in the book, but it is simply not possible to include all 400 paraders!
