Krewe Social at Oak and Ale Tuesday May 5

Gather for our monthly krewe social on the first Tuesdays of the month, 6-8 p.m. Oak & Ale (8118 Oak St., map) features a wine bar on one side, a beer bar on the other, and a patio in between. Look for us on the patio or inside on the Oak Wine Bar side (look for a krewe jacket or logo hanging on a chair).  Order on your own tab at either (or both!) bars (same food menu on both sides, and one tab works at both bars). Prospective members welcome. Meet other krewe members, ask questions, bounce ideas, show off what you’re working on, or just hang out. https://oakandalenola.com/

May 28 Feast Day Party, Prayer Service and Procession

Wear white and bring flowers for the Joan statue

Joan’s feast day honors her life on the day she died, May 30. Our krewe celebration is on Thursday May 28, open to the public. Gather at 5:30 at the Old Ursuline Convent for a prayer service at St. Mary’s chapel for a vesper prayer service at 6 p.m., followed by small bites and beverages in the Old Urusuline Convent museum and garden. Dress in white and bring flowers to leave at the Joan of Arc statue at few blocks away. We will walk to the statue at approximately 6:45 p.m. after our social time. At the statue we will have a reading of our 2027 parade prayer card and brief remarks. Event ends approximately 7:15 at the statue.

Schedule:

  • 5:30 pm Gather
  • 5:45 Vespers prayer service in St. Mary chapel
  • 6:15-6:45 Drinks and light bites with the krewe in the Old Urusuline Convent Museum and garden.

Full membership is open for 2027!

Full membership is open for the 2026-2027 year leading up to the January 6, 2027, parade!  Membership prices will increase at the close of Joan’s Feast Day (May 30) and again at All Saints Day (Nov. 1), so get yours early to get the best rate.  After much discussion, the board decided not to raise membership dues in order to keep the krewe accessible. We hope that those who can afford it will opt for a higher level of membership.  Join online here!

Non-Krewe But Fun Upcoming Events

Medieval Dancing and Mini Renaissance Fest

Medieval dancing lessons led by instructor “Giddy Up Two Step” Costume required, advance ticket required. We’d love to incorporate more medieval dancing in the krewe, and several krewe members attended one of her recent sessions and had a blast!  She’s offered several sessions in April-June and they’ve been selling out quickly. There are two sessions with a few tickets left ($11):

  • June 10 at Anna’s bar, 7:30-9:30 p.m. (event link, ticket link)
  • June 20 at Urban South Brewery, noon – 1 p.lm. (ticket link), during the mini-Renaissance Fest.
  • June 20, Mini Renaissance Fest at Urban South Brewery, free and open to the public, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Costumes encouraged.

Joive de Vivre Louisiana Catholic Arts Retreat

This two-day gathering focused on “South Louisiana & the Catholic Visual Arts” will bring together local and national Catholic artists with our wider community to celebrate the feast that is our Catholic faith and the visual arts. Hosted at the Saint Joseph Abbey near Covington, the retreat includes a keynote presentation, art exhibition, concurrent lectures and workshops, Catholic artist panel, Liturgy of the Hours and Mass with the monks, happy hours, strolls on the Abbey grounds, and optional housing accommodations at the Abbey.
