Notecards
- Description
Proceeds from the sale of these notecards go to the New Orleans Rotary Foundation to support the Joan of Arc Exchange travel scholarship program which sends our young "Maid of Honor" to our sister city Orléans, France. The notecards feature original designs by Judy Sheon of the krewe's "Restoration" battalion, which tells the story of the trial 25 years after Joan's death, when she was declared an innocent martyr. This trial took place in several cathedrals throughout France. Two of these cathedrals are represented with large rolling props in our parade, Notre Dame of Paris and the Basilique Cathédrale Sainte-Croix d'Orléans. During the annual Fêtes de Jeanne d'Arc, celebrated in Orléans, France, a stunning light show is projected onto the cathedral. Our large rolling prop depicts the Orléans cathedral during that light show which is so emblematic of a key cultural tie between our two cities -- our celebration of Joan of Arc! During the 2018 Fête when delegates from our parade participated in the Orléans parade in celebration of the new sister city partnership between New Orleans and Orléans, this light show included images of New Orleans. 2023 saw the creation of a sister city partnership between the New Orleans and Orléans Rotary clubs. In the 2024 New Orleans parade, members of the Rotary Clubs of New Orleans as well as the young "Jeanne d'Arc" and other guests from Orléans, France, will parade alongside the Orléans cathedral prop, which is depicted on one of the four notecards in the set.
