Join or renew your krewe membership by May 30 to get the early bird price
As always, membership prices increase on Joan’s Feast Day May 30 and All Saints Day November 1. After December 1, only donor memberships will be available. Membership prices now start at $150, as the board voted to raise the base membership price from $125 to $150. This is our first price increase since 2013 and reflects our rising costs, particularly for parade permit, required parade clean-up services, insurance, and prop storage.
Victorious Charles Book Club discussion Saturday June 7
Victorious Charles: A Ladies’ Man: In-Person Discussion Saturday, June 7 at the Columns Hotel Café (3811 St. Charles Avenue, map, menu). RSVP to krewe Founder Amy Kirk Duvoisin
Victorious Charles: A Ladies’ Man is a fascinating historical account of the lives of the nobility and the poor in 15th Century France, under the reign of King Charles VII. Charles VII was a warrior King who reigned at the time of France’s decades-long war against Henry V’s England. Charles is also often remembered for his numerous high-profile affairs, including one with the beautiful Agnès Sorel, known at the time as the Dame de Beauté. The book explores Charles’ youth, his crazy mother, and the positive influence of his mother-in-law, Yolande d’Aragon. Frenchmen Art and Books has this book in stock for us! Details and full schedule for the Joan of Arc Book Club. No need to be a krewe member to participate in the book club.
Joan of Art contest deadline July 31
We’re again calling for submissions of original Joan of Arc-related art work for our annual juried art show in partnership with Ariodante Gallery on Julia Street in the New Orleans Arts District! If selected by our jury panel, artwork will be exhibited at the gallery, and prizes will be awarded at the First Saturday exhibit opening Sept. 6. If you know any artists, please invite them to submit!
Book Club: Daughters of the New Year (added to Book Club schedule for discussion August 23)

RSVP to Krewe Founder Amy Kirk Duvoisin so she can reserve a table.
“Daughters of the New Year” is a novel by E.M. Tran that explores the lives of five generations of Vietnamese mothers and daughters, told in reverse chronological order. The story begins in present-day New Orleans and travels back through time to the Vietnam War, French colonial rule, and ultimately to the Trung sisters’ rebellion against Chinese occupation in the first century.
The novel weaves together themes of motherhood, womanhood, the cyclical nature of time, and the difficulties of immigration, particularly for the Vietnamese diaspora. It delves into the cultural loss and challenges faced by immigrant families, exploring the complexities of relationships and the search for identity. The narrative also incorporates elements of magical realism, with the sisters experiencing visions and connections to their ancestral past.
