Foot soldier volunteer director — leader of a team
Foot soldier volunteer management and costume inventory team members
Our 180 foot soldier volunteers (free) borrow a krewe-owned costume and walk security, carry banners, shepherd props down the street, and help with loading and unloading the truck. Costuming these volunteers enhances our spectacle. The many tasks associated with this could be divided among a team a lot of different ways, so let us know if you’d be willing to help with any of them!
Foot soldier volunteer coordination team or leader tasks
- Foot soldier costume pick-up host: giving a friendly welcome, explaining foot soldier jobs, showing them how to wear the costume, issuing costumes and tracking who was issued which costumes. Needs to be willing to invest time to learn the different costumes and roles. Once you’re trained, you can offer costume pick-up events at the krewe storage unit.
- Assigning foot soldiers to roles in a spreadsheet, juggling parade priorities, foot soldier preferences and available costumes to cover the prop tasks. Needs to be willing to invest time to learn our costumes and roles.
- Promoting and recruiting for foot soldiers (social media etc.)
- Sewing, ironing and labeling new costumes or costume improvements. Could be in workshops together or could take costumes home to work on.
- Laundering, sorting, labeling and organizing the existing costume inventory to be ready for pick-up.
501c3 Task Force: Legal, accounting, bookkeeping and/or nonprofit management expertise would be helpful on our task force to work toward getting recognized as a 501c3.
