Announcing the 6th annual “Joan of Art” show and contest: Open Call for Artists!
Introducing a new Teen Category for youth artists 13-17
The Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc of New Orleans requests artists to submit previously created or new artwork portraying Joan of Arc in the 2025 “Joan of Art” contest. We welcome established as well as emerging artists ages 13 and up to participate in this visual celebration of the Maid of Orléans, France, and the unofficial patron saint of New Orleans.
The Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc produces the annual Joan of Arc Parade in New Orleans each January and the annual Salon de Jeanne d’Arc conference each September, as well as other cultural events and activities throughout the year. Our “army of artists” welcomes new inspiration and new images of Joan from local and national artists to celebrate Jeanne d’Arc in visual art forms as a way to continue to honor her and to reflect her long-reaching legacy and influence. The Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc will also consider some submissions for potential use (with artist credit) in our krewe publications, promotional materials, and possibly as parade favors or parade banners.
The krewe welcomes only positive and original images of Joan, to share with the public throughout the month of September 2025 at Ariodante Arts & Crafts Gallery in New Orleans. The exhibit of juried artworks will be part of the gallery’s September First Saturday’s Art Walk on Julia Street on September 6, 2025. That evening, local art contest judges will choose the top three art pieces to award for this year’s contest. Winners in first, second and third place will each receive a complimentary walking membership (valued at $150).
Artwork at Ariodante must be made available for sale if selected for a 50/50 split with the artist. Artwork displayed at the Salon de Jeanne d’Arc need not be made for sale and can be for display only.
Select pieces of the artwork may be chosen to be replicated, with the artist’s permission, for use in the Salon de Jeanne d’Arc poster and/or in theJoan of Arc Parade, as a throw design, or on banners or in other printed materials. This is in addition to a public gallery display.
Artwork can be in any of the following genres: painting, drawing, multimedia, sculpture, or photography. All media and genres will be accepted for review. If selected, artwork must be made available for display and installed in Ariodante Gallery by September 1, 2025.
Artists selected for the juried exhibit will be notified by August 15, 2025.
A selection of artworks submitted will be invited to become part of the annual Joan of Art Show, curated by Ariodante owners Laurie Reed and Deyette Danford. Three local judges will select the contest winners in person on September 6, 2025, at the official Joan of Art Show opening.
All the selected artworks will be displayed together in the main gallery of Ariodante Contemporary Art & Craft Gallery at 535 Julia Street, New Orleans, from September 6-30, 2025.
“This contest gives us an opportunity to meet new artists and to collaborate with a unique arts organization, The Joan of Arc Project. It is a win/win for all of us to build an annual show around this theme. The show continues to grow each year, and some of the artists who participate in this show end up selling other pieces at Ariodante year-round,” said Reed.
