  • Description

This booklet compiles images of authentic medieval manuscripts, a jeweled treasure binding, and authentic medieval depictions of angel musicians and Saint Michael to create a new "manuscript" of the actual medieval sheet music for the songs performed by Saint Michael's Angel Army Choir, which accompanies the Saint Michael character in our parade in the Voices of Joan battalion.  The "medieval manuscript" is 4.25" X 5.5," with eight inner pages printed on parchment paper. The outer cover is printed on sturdy high-gloss cardstock, hand-embellished with 3D blue rhinestones in the corners and bound with blue satin ribbon. Although most of the images are medieval, the inner front cover image is an original depiction of Saint Michael with the parade's own angel army choir. Set of 20 booklets.

The last page reads: "Saint Michael’s Angel Army Choir performs mostly authentic medieval sacred music under the direction of Claudia Copeland, with musicians from her Free Orchestra of Rhythmic Cacophony and Euphony F.O.R.C.E., as well as additional singers from the Saint Louis Cathedral Choir, Symphony Chorus, Opera Chorus. Inspired by illuminated manuscripts, this booklet includes images of the original medieval manuscript music for several of the songs the group sings:  “Stella Splendens,” “Laudemus Virginem,” and “Cuncti Simus Cocanentes” all from the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat (1399), “Promat Chorus Hodie, O Contio” from Latin manuscript 1139 from Abbey of Saint-Martial de Limoges in France (1200s). The Latin text of the quintessential angel song “Gloria in Excelsis Deo” dates from the 2nd century, although the Italian 1500s music depicted here is not the arrangement the group sings. Saint Michael is portrayed krewe co-captain Amanda Helm."
