Parade Instructions — Foot Soldiers

NEW ROUTE and START TIME FOR 2026!!!!!!

Before the parade: Line-Up Instructions

  • Arrive at THE NEW STARTING POINT at 300 Front Street (Corner of Front and Bienville, Premium Parking Lot #402)
  • First shift foot soldiers arrive by 5:45 p.m. Second shift foot soldiers must arrive by 6:30 p.m., but you can come sooner if you like. (Second shift, don’t forget your job is to load the truck at the end!)
  • Report to the check-in table to get your instructions for helping to unload the props truck and set up the parade line-up. Check in to get both your work assignment and your wristband.
  • Remember that you must have a wristband signifying that you are eligible to parade. Actually put your wristband on.
  • Park at the start in Premium Parking Lot 402 or at the end in Premium Parking Lot #407 (map, entrance near 698 Decatur), carpool is encouraged. Reserve a parking space.
  • Arrive in costume ready to parade. There is nowhere to store anything at the line-up or to change clothes. (Here’s our foot soldier costume guide)
  • Don’t ruin your costume!  No modern coats, purses or bags on top of your costume.
  • DO NOT ALTER YOUR BORROWED KREWE COSTUME!
  • Handle our handmade props with care, and guard fragile props from accidental damage. Many props have assembly instructions on them.

Your job during the parade

  • We are all performers in this Army of Artists. Help us create a spectacular experience for our crowd!
  • The full members handing out throws are distracted handing out throws, so it’s your job to pay attention to keeping the parade moving smoothly along.
  • Once the parade starts, keep your cell phone or camera put away
  • Keep the crowd out of the parade and the parade out of the crowd. During the parade, be aware of outsiders that may try to impose on our parade. Remember that we all have wristbands. If someone does try, ask them politely to step out of our parade or grab one of the parade Marshals to inform them.
  • Gently encourage lagging full members to keep up with their section
  • Watch out for potholes and such that might make trouble for props
  • If you are carrying a banner, pay attention to how you’re holding it and keep it steady
  • Like last year: the parade will remain in formation for all stops. Everyone is encouraged to do something theatrical or interact with the crowd wherever you find yourself while the parade is paused for a ceremony. DO NOT LEAVE THE PARADE DURING STOPS OR TREAT IT AS A BREAK.

Parade end and after

  • The parade ends around 9:30 p.m. in the French Market vendor parking lot (90 French Market Place, map), where the props truck will be waiting for us.
  • PROCEED IMMEDIATELY TO THE PROPS TRUCK TO RETURN YOUR BORROWED FOOT SOLDIER COSTUME AND ANY PROPS YOU’VE BEEN HANDLING. NEVER leave props unattended.
  • Second shift foot soldiers, we are counting on YOU to load! Return your costume and stay to help collect and load props and costumes until the props truck is fully loaded and ready to depart.
  • First shift foot soldiers may leave after you return your costume and props. Feel free to stay to help if you like.
