Parade Instructions — Foot Soldiers

Before the parade: Line-Up Instructions

  • Arrive at THE STARTING POINT AT BIENVILLE and N. FRONT STREET (Premium Parking Lot #402 or 300 N. Front Street for GPS, map) by 4:45 p.m.
  • Report to the check-in table to get your instructions for helping to unload the props truck and set up the parade line-up. Check in to get both your work assignment and your wristband
  • Remember that you must have a wrist band signifying that you are eligible to parade. Actually put your wrist band on.
  • Park in Premium Parking Lot #402, carpool is encouraged. Reserve a parking space.
  • Arrive in costume ready to parade. There is nowhere to store anything at the line-up or to change clothes. (Here’s our foot soldier costume guide)
  • Don’t ruin your costume!  No modern coats, purses or bags on top your costume.  Weather is looking really good this year!
  • DO NOT ALTER YOUR BORROWED KREWE COSTUME!
  • Handle our handmade props with care, and guard fragile props from accidental damage.
  • Bathrooms at the line-up are in Canal Place or Jax Brewery shopping center

Your job during the parade

  • We are all performers in this Army of Artists. Help us create a spectacular experience for our crowd!
  • The full members handing out throws are distracted handing out throws, so it’s your job to pay attention to keeping the parade moving smoothly along.
  • Once the parade starts, keep your cell phone or camera put away
  • Keep the crowd out of the parade and the parade out of the crowd. During the parade be aware of outsiders that may try to impose on our parade. Remember that we all have wristbands. If someone does try, ask them politely to step out of our parade or grab one of the parade Marshals to inform them.
  • Gently encourage lagging full members to keep up with their section
  • Watch out for potholes and such that might make trouble for props

Parade end and after

  • The parade ends around 8:30 or 8:45 at Oscar Dunn Park (the sidewalk amphitheater across from Jackson Square, formerly called Washington Artillery Park).  The king cake and crowning ceremony at ODP is the finale, and the parade then disbands.
    • When you arrive at ODP, get immediately off the street and head for your spot.
    • If you are not managing large props, you go up the steps all the way to the top.
    • If you are carrying a vertical (1 person) banner, go up the steps past the landing and stand on the second set of steps (without blocking them) with your banner to create a backdrop.
    • Knights and flag corp will create a corridor of flags and raised swords up the steps for the rest of the krewe to process through as they arrive.
    • If you are managing large props, move your prop to the right (away from the Cafe du Monde) toward the trees to get the big props off the street. Stay with your props, and return them promptly to the line-up.
    • NEVER leave props unattended, even just to watch the birthday ceremony. You are welcome to continue on back to the truck where we started to return props and costuming.
  • After the king cake ceremony, the parade is disbanded. PROCEED IMMEDIATELY BACK TO THE LINE-UP AND TURN IN YOUR COSTUME AND PROPS TO THE TRAILER TRUCK AT THE LINE-UP.
