We love that @soul heirs brass band leads our parade each year!Sound the trumpets… though in the medieval world they weren’t for celebration, they were for orders, warnings, and war.
Medieval trumpets were simple brass tubes with no valves… loud, sharp, and designed to cut through the noise of a busy field or a crowded street.
Kings used them to mark their arrival, armies used them to signal movement, and towns used them to announce curfews or important messages.
A good trumpeter was worth his pay… he had the lungs of an ox and the job of carrying commands across chaos.
In battle, a trumpet blast meant advance, hold, or pull back.
On feast days it meant “make way for the lord.”
In tournaments it meant the joust was about to begin.
Wherever you heard that bold, brassy note, something was happening.
Simple instruments… but they carried authority, ceremony, and sometimes sheer panic!
