In-Person Book Club This Saturday at L’Union Française

Join us in person at 9 a.m. this Saturday March 11 to discuss the book Language of Fire (note time and location change!). We moved the book club to L’Union Française (4522 Prytania, map) so we can stick around to enjoy coffee, croissants and French Cajun music with L’Union as they celebrate sponsoring a film for the French Film Festival. From Amazon’s synopsis of Language of Fire: “This extraordinary verse novel from award-winning author Stephanie Hemphill dares to imagine how an ordinary girl became a great leader.”  You can pick up the book at Garden District Book Shop.

Zoom Author Talk Wednesday March 22

Language of Fire author Stephanie Hemphill will join our Zoom book club discussion at 7 p.m. March 22. Tune in via Zoom (link, meeting ID: 864 8909 8838, passcode: 226557)

New Orleans French Film Festival March 9-13

The festival showcases excellence in contemporary and classic francophone cinema, including 13 feature films from 8 countries. Films show at Prytania Theatre, both their Uptown and Canal Place locations, with select films also available for virtual screenings. Find out more!

Fête Française – Volunteers Needed March 25

French immersion school Ecole Bilingue will hold its annual street festival fundraiser with French food and music from Saturday March 25, 11-5 p.m. Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc usually has an information table here along with other French organizations, and it’s a good networking and recruiting opportunity for us. We need a few people to volunteer to work our booth for an hour or two in costume and help children color cardboard swords. Email to volunteer. The festival occupies the block near the school (821 General Pershing St., map)

Krewe Viewing Party Tuesday March 28

Bask in the glory of our 2023 “roll” as we view photos and videos from our 2023 parade on the big screen and discuss plans for next year!  This is a great chance to bring friends who are considering joining, and you can renew your own membership on site as well. We’ll gather at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday March 28 at Melba’s Po’Boys (1525 Elysian Fields, map)

Throws Planning Workshop Saturday April 1

Calling our crafters! Bring your ideas. We’ll discuss throws fundraising and sales from 2022-2023, then plan our signature krewe throws for 2023-2024. We’ll wrap up the meeting by 2:30 and jump in with some actual crafting.  You’re welcome, but absolutely not required, to bring a snack to share.  If you have ideas for throws that could be produced by krewe members for sale as official signature throws, we’d love to hear them!  Bring your samples, sketches, prototypes, and/or supplies price research to share too.
